Veeam just released a feature, Direct Restore to Microsoft Azure, that makes it possible for its users to restore backups created by its Veeam Backup & Replication, Veeam Endpoint Backup™ FREE, or Veeam Backup™ Free Edition in a Microsoft’s Azure IaaS computing environment.
The new feature will be integrated into future versions of Veeam Backup & Replication. It is being delivered as a preview in the form of free, pre-configured Azure appliance. This appliance can be found in the the Microsoft Azure Marketplace.
Although I’ve often commented on the fact that most of Veeam’s marketing statements are a large over reach. Although the company only provides backup and restore products for a limited range of computing environments, it has described them as “Availability for the Always-On Enterprise.”
This announcement focuses on the company’s expansion into the world of Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing rather than offering new and exciting features.
As before, the company still doesn’t support all of the major X86-based hypervisors or other cloud computing environments.
That being said, Veeam has a great reputation with its clients and clearly is making efforts to live up to its ever-expanding marketing statements.
